Following the three new engine introductions with the Active Tourer model, BMW has made another update to its 2-Series line-up. The German manufacturer has now replaced the 2.0-liter diesel unit in the 220d Coupe, with a new power unit of same displacement.

Equipped with brand's TwinPower Turbo technology, the engine churns out maximum power output of 190 bhp, whilst delivering a peak torque of 400 Nm. In comparison to the predecessor engine, the output has gone up by 6.8 bhp and maximum torque by 20 Nm. Moreover, the weight of the new engine has also dropped by around two kilograms. While being coupled with revised eight-speed Steptronic transmission, the new engine allows the BMW 220d Coupe to reach 100 km/h from standstill in just 7 seconds, marking an improvement of 0.1 seconds over the former sprint. Whereas the standard six-speed manual gearbox, the model sprints 0-100 km/h in 7.1 seconds, that gain 0.1 seconds faster than before.

“Lighter, more powerful, more efficient, more comfortable, the latest generation of four-cylinder diesel engines from BMW offers not only further optimised efficiency, but also a multitude of additional qualities that comply with the BMW EfficientDynamics principle,” states BMW.

With a standard six-speed manual gearbox, average fuel consumption of the model now varies between 4.4 to 4.1 l litres per 100 km, and a CO2 level of 115 to 107 g/km. Whereas the combined fuel economy with the optional eight-speed Steptronic gearbox, now stands at 4.1 to 3.8 litres per 100 km. Its CO2 emissions are rated at 99 g/km (figures vary depending of selected tyre size).
