Datsun MPV Go+: Overview of the promising MPV

Stunning the car enthusiasts all over the world, Nissan unveiled its all new Datsun MPV Go+ in Indonesia on 18th September, 2013. The brilliant MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) despite its compact dimension of less than four meter is available with seven seat arrangement. In its bid to penetrate its reach in the developing countries, Nissan revamped their long discontinued Datsun brand. Datsun Go hatchback was unveiled in India earlier this month and with Go+ MPVs launch, it is clear that Nissan wants to aggressively market its lower brand Datsun especially in growing auto markets of the world. Given the fact that Datsun Go+ is based on the Go hatchback platform, the tagging will be at a cracker price for the Indian market. It will be manufactured in India at Renault – Nissan facility in Oragadam, near Chennai.

The all new Datsun MPV Go+ is perfectly designed for families looking for an elegant people mover that is able to accommodate up to seven passengers. Contemporarily designed Go+ boasts of dynamic silhouette and sleek styling that enhances the overall appeal of the vehicle. The styling is kept simple yet practical along with strong shoulder lines and side profile extending head & tail lamps. The expressive front fascia and impression lasting rear part all add-on to make for a true compact MPV. Under the hood of this sturdy MPV lies a 1.2 litre petrol motor that is already doing duties in Nissan Micra and the Datsun Go hatchback. It is expected to return with an impressive mileage of 20kmpl. The Go+ gets decent amount of features to make for a practical family lounge. Point to note is its sub 4 meter length.

A new segment of compact MPVs has cropped up in the country with Maruti Ertiga, Nissan Evalia and Chevrolet Enjoy’s launch. However, the prime rival of Go+ in India would be the Chevy Enjoy due to its low price.

As earlier said, powering the new Datsun MPV Go+ would be the same 1.2 litre engine that is presently installed under Nissan Micra’s and Datsun Go hatchback’s hood. The 1.2 litre 12V inline petrol powermill in Micra churns out top power of 75bhp at 6000rpm and generates a decent torque of 104Nm at 4000rpm. Company claims that it will be offering a spectacular mileage of 20 kilometers per litre. However, there is no news of the diesel engine but we expect a 1.5-litre K9K motor to make way sometime in the near future.

Exteriors

Borrowing most of the details from its hatchback sibling, Datsun Go+ has clean and tidy styling with sturdier shoulder line and brilliant silhouette all over its body. The sleekly styled MPV is hard to ignore whether on the move or at still thanks to its simple yet aggressive front and nicely tweaked rear. The front and rear headlamps extends in to the side profile. The all black honeycomb grille with chrome lining coupled with ‘chinned’ front bumper and smart fog lamp housing present the people mover an artistic appearance.

Body coloured bumpers and door handles look civilized and the contour originating from midway perfectly blends with the extending tail lamp, thus strengthening the sportier form of the vehicle. Furthermore, the blackened B and C pillar adds the required supremeness at sides.

Exterior dimensions are adequate for a compact MPV having 3995mm of length with 1635mm of width, 1485mm of height and 2450mm of wheelbase. The under four meters of length ensures that the Go+ MPV will get the excise duty when it is launched in India.

Interiors

Datsun engineers have been spot on in utilizing every bit of Go+’s space. The interiors are roomy and stylish without compromising on comfort and quality standards that has been a key pillar in Datsun’s journey till date. Looking at the compact outer dimensions one cannot predict gallons of space in the inside, courtesy intelligent Japanese engineering. There is decent headroom and legroom for occupants, thanks to nearly 1500 mm of height, alongside proper width of the versatile MPV that easily makes way for 3 passengers in the middle row. In all, the overall space is just sufficient to seat 7 average sized individuals. Moreover there lots of convenient cubbyholes that come handy, while on the move, to keep accessories and stuffs.

Fun and flexibility goes hand-in-hand with Datsun Go+ MPV as the last two rows come with folding option, which makes way for space-consuming luggage. The precise dashboard is designed keeping in mind the space-saving tactic, as the gear knob hangs just below it, next to glove, providing space to keep things on the bench-like front seat. The one feature that catches your eye in the budget MPV is the Datsun Mobile Docking Station that allows smart phone incorporation.

Features

The soon-to-be-introduced Datsun MPV Go+ embraces most of the features seen in its hatchback sibling. There are enough of active and passive safety features installed in the new Go+ that ascertain you and your loved one’s complete protection. Go hatchback’s traits adorned in the compact MPV include Seats with integrated headrests, 60: 40 split, Smart phone dock for taking calls and streaming music, Dual tone colour theme and plenty of storage options.

Mileage

The Datsun MPV Go+ will return fuel economy of 20kmpl (as per company claims) with its petrol motor.
