Hyundai Elite i20 bags 12,000 bookings in 15 days

Hyundai Elite i20, the new sensation of Auto-Town has bagged more than 12,000 bookings in just 15 days of its launch. The new i20 was launched on August 11 with a starting price of Rs 4.89 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi) and within a couple of days, the car took the legacy of its i brand (i10, Grand i10 and i20) to new heights. Based on Hyundai's 'Fluidic Sculpture 2.0' design philosophy, the car now looks completely different from the previous model.

Rakesh Srivastava, Senior Vice President (Sales & Marketing), Hyundai Motor India Ltd, had earlier said, "This year our target for sales in domestic market is 4.10 lakh units. Last year we had sold 3.8 lakh units in the domestic market. The past three months have seen improvement in customer sentiment resulting in better sales in the automotive segment."

Hyundai Elite i20 retains the Era, Magna, Sportz, Sportz (O) and Asta variants and is offered with two engine options- 1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT petrol mill and 1.4L U2 CRDi diesel powertrain.  The petrol model is coupled with five speed manual transmission and diesel with six speed manual gearbox.

The interiors are also redesigned and the Elite i20 embraces black and beige scheme with silver accents. Other convenient features include updated large screen multimedia 2-DIN audio system with USB, AUX-in and 1GB storage support, steering mounted controls and AC with advance automatic climate control along with rear air cons first seen in Grand i10, engine push start/stop switch, etc.

In terms of safety the Elite i20 comes equipped with Anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), four passenger airbags and reverse parking camera.

With the introduction of Elite i20, the competition in the premium hatch segment gets more furious. Fiat too introduced its all new Punto Evo while in the upcoming months, Tata and Maruti Suzuki will too launch their respective models in this segment.
