Last month in January, the homegrown manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. retailed 39,930 units compared to 42,685 units in January 2014. According to the automaker, the dip in the sales was due to the withdrawal of excise duty benefits which resulted in negative sentiments among the buyers and the obvious price hike that further ducked the sales.

In the passenger vehicle segment, India’s leading SUV manufacturer, sold 18,804 units in January 2015 as against 19,792 units during January 2014. The domestic sales for January 2015 stood at 37,045 units compared to 40,324 units last year same month. Also in terms of exports, the automaker witnessed a growth of 22 per cent as it shipped 2,885 units.

In the first month of 2015, the carmaker introduced two new variants S4+ & S4+ 4WD in the Scorpio lineup. Also in this process, S4 4WD was discontinued to make space for two new variants. Both the S4+ and S4+ 4WD are placed above the S4 trim. The Ex-Showroom Delhi price of S4 variant is Rs 9,29,578 while S4+ and S4 4WD are priced at Rs 9,70,786 and Rs 10,83,630 respectively.

Pravin Shah, Chief Executive, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. on the monthly sales figure said, “The first month of 2015 has not been encouraging as the effect of withdrawal of excise duty subsidy is clearly evident. Unfortunately, the segmented recovery which we were witnessing over the last couple of months has been impacted with the excise duty change. We do hope that the upcoming Budget has some positive news for the auto sector. At Mahindra we are happy with the performance of our exports as well as our Trucks & Bus Division”.
