India’s largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki revealed that the company's latest offering- the Vitara Brezza, received 2,600 bookings in just 24 hours of launch.
The Brezza was launched a few days ago and is available in six diesel variants that fall in the price bracket of Rs. 6.99 lakhs to Rs. 9.68 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The aggressive pricing seems to have struck the right chord with the masses, going by the response Maruti Suzuki has received. The automaker has also announced that petrol variants of the Brezza will make their way to the market soon. Designed and developed in-house by Maruti’s domestic R&D team, the Brezza has a high localisation level of 98%, which has helped Maruti keep the sticker price low.
The Vitara Brezza went into development in the year 2011, almost half a decade ago. Stemming from the XA Alpha and YBA concept, the compact SUV takes on the Mahindra TUV300 and the Ford EcoSport. The Brezza will also be looking at luring prospective buyers who are on a lookout for entry-level trims of the Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta and the Nissan Terrano. There's a fair bit of sibling rivalry on the cards as well. The Brezza's pricing overlaps that of the Baleno hatchback and tops out where prices for the S-Cross start. The pricing also makes sure that the Brezza eats into sales of compact sedans and premium hatchbacks as well.
Brezza is powered by a 1.3-litre DDiS200 diesel engine, which delivers 90PS of power output and 200 Nm of peak torque. Maruti also claims that this motor in its compact SUV is capable of returning 24.3kmpl in terms of fuel economy.
