Last year, Maruti Suzuki India launched the affordable compact MPV, Ertiga in the Indian car market. The vehicle was an instant hit, and now the sales of the company's life utility vehicle have crossed 1 lakh mark in the domestic market, which is surely a big number for a multi-purpose vehicle. The information is extracted from an advertisement published on a daily newspaper, stating " Maruti Suzuki Ertiga quickest in its segment to cross one lakh mark". Moreover, the advertisment also invites people to test drive the Ertiga before September 30th at any Maruti Suzuki dealership and win an assured gift.
In recent times, the competition in the compact MPV segment has increased, which also affected the sales of Ertiga. However, it still managed to remain stable at around 4 thousand units a month. The company recently launched the CNG version of the Ertiga, called as Ertiga Green in India. The vehicle is now available in two variants priced at Rs. 6.52 lakh and Rs. 7.30 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively. Moreover, the company also introduced a special edition of Ertiga Feliz to celebrate the first anniversary of the LUV in India.
It seems like the competition level in the compact MPV segment is going to be tougher in the Indian market, as the major car manufacturers are gearing up to launch their vehicles in the segment. Honda is ready with its compact Brio based MPV, called as Mobilio in Indonesia, Nissan has also revived its Datsun brand, which will introduce a compact MPV Go+ in India by 2014.
