The advent of automatic transmission seems to have gone just too well with the Indian customers. Going one step further, country’s most prominent carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, has expressed their desire to bring this technology in every segment the company currently operates in. Executive director at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (engineering), C.V. Raman, said that work is underway to make sure that ‘two-pedal’ technology is available in every segment the company currently operates so that customers have a choice. He also said that the company is also trying to make this technology affordable. At present, AMT version of cars, generally costs more than the manual version of the same.

Maruti Suzuki presently deploys automatic gearbox in Alto K10, Celerio, Ritz, Swift Dzire, WagonR, Baleno, Ertiga and Ciaz. It is now eyeing to do the same for Swift and S-Cross. While the the current 4-speed AT could be used for Swift, S-Cross may receive the same CVT unit that comes with the Euro-spec model. Much anticipated will surely be the Swift, which already has got a larger market share. Magneti Marelli (Maruti’s AMT supplier) recently opened manufacturing plant at Manesar will be of great help to the company. Although Maruti has not given any time frame for the same, given the acceptance of the popularity of clutchless driving, Maruti is expected to gear up for the same in no time.
