Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSI) recorded a good 26.90 percent sales growth in August. The cumulative tally stood at 1,10,776 units in comparison to 87,323 units in the same month year-ago.
India's largest car manufacturer retailed 29.30 percent more cars in the domestic market at 98,304 units, up against 76,018 units in August last year. Whereas, MSI's exports in the month, showed 10.3 percent rise, at 12,472 units, as compared to 11,305 units in the same month previous year.
According to the company, sales of its mini passenger cars, including the Alto, A-Star, WagonR and Celerio showed 8.3 percent increase, at 34,686 units, against 32,019 units in the last year's August. And the sales of its compact cars, comprising Swift, Estilo, Celerio, Ritz and Dzire were up by 53.2 percent, at 46,759 units, as against 30,512 units in the August 2013.
In the month, the company sold 20.30 percent more utility vehicles, including the Ertiga MUV and Gypsy, at 5,491 units as against 4,563 units. Van sales of the company, including Omni and Eeco, stood at 9,990 units, as against 7,956 units in the previous year, registering 25.6 percent increment.

The previous generation big-booted Swift Dzire aka Dzire Tour, witnessed 114.2 percent rise in demand at 1,328 units, up by 520 units in the same time last year. While the only MSI's product that showed a negative graph, was the soon-to-be-replaced mid-sized sedan SX4. Its sales drowned by 85.6 percent to just 50 units, in comparison to 348 units of last year's August.
