Mercedes Benz revealed the GLC Class SUV this year in June which will replace the GLK moniker globally. The German manufacturer has kick-started local production of the SUV in Beijing, China. It’s the second manufacturing plant after the Bremen, in the home country Germany. Speaking with respect to India, Mercedes Benz is expected to introduce it in the country next year, since the GLK it will be replacing, was only available in left-hand-drive version, this GLC will be available in the RHD version too!

“After the successful start of the GLC at the lead plant Bremen, Beijing follows now as the second production site. The new assembly facilities meet the highest standards of modern production in our flexible and efficient production network. Thereby we ensure the established high quality at all our Mercedes-Benz Cars locations worldwide,” said Markus Schäfer, Member of the Divisional Board Mercedes-Benz Cars, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management.
Mechanically, the vehicle comes standard with Mercedes Benz’s permanent all-wheel drive system - 4MATIC. Available engine options include 2 diesel and a petrol along with a hybrid version. When introduced in India, it will compete with the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and the Volvo XC60.
