At the launch of City diesel, Honda India announced the deliveries of the diesel model to begin immediately after the launch. However, the company strategically held back with the petrol City and announced its deliveries to begin from mid February'14. The clear indication to pitch the diesel model well in the Indian car market. The strategy certainly worked well for the company, as within two months 23,000 new City were booked. And the number is simply rising. The diesel City sports the first time ever with City, a 1.5-litre i-DTEC powertain, the same introduced with sub-4 metre sedan, Amaze. This frugal engine is capable of delivering max power of 98.6bhp and max torque of 200Nm.
Numerically speaking, honda India observed a clear rise of 188% of sales growth with the launch of new City and Amaze rolled out last year. To add to this growth, the company has rolled out new City's petrol version as well in the market. Since the company has started taking bookings for the petrol model, there are already as many as Cities have been booked that waiting peroid for it has extended to three months or so. The petrol versoin comes powered with a 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine producing max power output of 117bhp and top torque of 4600rpm.
In terms of competition, the new City lock horns with Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Vento. Well, the Honda's renewed City is certainly not less, and now with the availabilty with the diesel verison of it, new City is surely to make its way easy.
