Italian carmaker Fiat has finally unveiled its much-anticipated 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee at the ongoing 2014 Indian Auto Expo. Earlier, the company planned to introduce the Grand Cherokee by the end of 2013, however, with the depreciating rupee value has forced Jeep to delay its launch. Now, the vehicle is expected to be launched by the end of this year or by early 2015.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a spectacular looking SUV, which in contrast with Wrangler has more premium looks. Its front fascia features a 7-slat chrome grille that resembles Mahindra's Jeep which was assembled till 1995. The front of the car sports reasonable serving of chrome touches and chrome accents running across the lower half of the front bumper. It also features two air intakes with chrome linings that further accentuates the overall design. The front facade comes equipped with horizontally placed headlamps with LED daytime running lamps.
The rear profile of the SUV features large tail lamps and the boot lid accomodate's the large Jeep badge with lots of chrome. Its rear bumper adorn two large trapezoidal exhaust tips. This large SUV has 20-inch split-5-spoke chrome wheels, which further adds an aggressiveness to its tall stance.
Jeep Grand Cherokee has a more upmarket interiors when compared to its predecessor. The dashboard of the SUV features an 8.9-inch touchscreen, while the centre console and steering wheel gets a hoard of buttons. It comes equipped with several advanced features including voice control activation, air-suspension controller, 4-wheel drive system, radar-based adaptive cruise control. The audio controls are positioned behind the wheel, while the controls for the wipers and headlamps are mounted at one place. Other features include panoramic sunroof, SD card, USB and aux-in ports, heated and ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, Sat-Nav, Bluetooth connectivity, parking sensors, reverse camera, keyless entry, two USB slots for rear passengers and several more.
Under the hood, the Jeep Grand Cherokee gets the 23.0-litre V6 diesel engine that churns out a maximum power output of 237bhp and 549Nm of top torque. It is mated to ZF's eight-speed automatic gearbox, which transmits power to all four wheels.
