Nissan has inaugurated a new after-sales Parts Distribution Centre (PDC) in India to continue improving its service to customers. This facility is the first and biggest of the additional PDCs that Nissan will establish in coming months. The new PDC will help optimize Nissan’s supply chain management process in India by ensuring a more efficient delivery of spare parts to its authorized workshops across the country, resulting in a quicker service delivery experience for customers. The PDC begins operation at a time Nissan is witnessing growth, both in its domestic and export volumes in India.
Kenichiro Yomura, President, Nissan India Operations, said, “Customer satisfaction is one of our key focus areas this fiscal year. Our new after-sales Parts Distribution Centre reaffirms our commitment to our customers in India. Efficient supply of spare parts across our existing service network is imperative to complement our plan to increase our sales touchpoints.”
The new facility is situated at Indospace SKCL Industrial Park in Sriperumbudur Taluk near Chennai and is built over an extensive 4.8 lakh sq. feet (45,000 sq. metre) area. It features a daily outbound volume of 2800 lines per day compared to the previous facility’s 700 lines and has an increased dispatch rate of 90%, making it capable of dispatching parts the same day to different parts of India.
Yomura added, “Our plan is to have a hub-and-spoke parts distribution model. We will set up additional spare parts distribution centres in other locations in India in coming months, while Chennai will be the distribution hub.”
The facility also hosts separate office and canteen blocks, and will employ about 300 floor members. The material storage facility comprises heavy duty racking, shelving racks, stillage and trolleys, while state of the art forklifts and reach trucks are employed for material handling.
The new Parts Distribution Centre, constructed in a record period of just 11 months, will be directly managed by Nissan Motor India Private Ltd with the support of Indospace, Yusen Logistics as well as Nippon Express. It adheres to Nissan’s global safety and efficiency standards of supply chain management.
