Tata Motors, India's leading carmaker will showcase the diesel version of the country's cheapest car Nano at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The Nano diesel has already been spotted several times during its test rounds on the Indian roads, and there would be no better platform than Auto Expo to present a new vehicle to buyers.
With diesel motor, it is expected that Nano could become the country's most fuel efficient car and will surely help the company to improve its market share. Currently, Tata Nano is being offered in petrol and CNG variants. While the petrol model is priced at Rs. 1.42 lakh, the eco-friendly variant costs Rs. 2.40 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
The Nano diesel is expected to cost around Rs. 60,000 to 1 lakh more than a gasoline powered model, which would make it around Rs. 2.1-2.4 lakh. With this price tag, it will become the country's cheapest diesel car.
The Tata Nano diesel is likely to be powered by a 2-cylinder, 800cc turbocharged diesel engine that develops around 40-45bhp of top power. If reports are to be believed, this model would return a fuel economy of around 35-40kmpl.
Along with Nano diesel, Tata will also unveil a compact hatchback and a compact sedan under its Falcon project. The hatchback has been spied several times and it is expected to be launched by the festive season.
