Looks like Tata has yet another trick up its sleeve. While they are working on getting us an updated Nano, the Kite 5 compact sedan, and the much awaited Hexa, the trusty workhorse in the Tata lineup - the Xenon is all set to get a facelift as well. Rumours suggest that the facelift is likely to debut around the festive season. The update is likely to focus on freshening up the Xenon's aging looks. Expect the pickup to get cosmetic updates both inside and out.

The Xenon is based on the same platform as the Sumo Grande and is powered by a 138PS, 2.2-litre DiCOR engine. The commercial-use variants get the old 3.0-litre motor that develop 73PS/223Nm and 116PS/300Nm in single-cab and double-cab avatars respectively. The pickup is likely to get a bump in power figures too, just like the Tata Safari.

Notably, Tata Motors launched an updated Xenon, called 'Evolve' for the South African markets. The updated iteration (pictured) features a new front bumper, nudge guards at the front and the rear, a roll-over bar and updated alloy wheels. On the inside, the South African-spec Xenon gets leather upholstery, integrated music system with navigation and Bluetooth, power windows and a tilt-adjustable steering.

The 'Evolve' edition seems like the perfect update to the Xenon. We won't have to wait for long to confirm, since the launch is just a couple of months away. The lifestyle pickup truck segment is slowly gaining traction. Japanese manufacturer Isuzu recently introduced the DMax V-Cross that is stirring up the interest of many. Tata would want a piece of that pie, by positioning the Xenon well below the V-Cross.

The Xenon XT currently starts around the Rs 10 lakh mark. With the update, expect the prices to rise slightly. That said, it will still manage to undercut the Isuzu that starts at around Rs 12.5 lakh.
