In a bid to produce more lithium-ion battery cells than any of the previous manufacturing plants, ace electric car maker Tesla will build its 'Gigafactory' in the state of Nevada. Tesla chose Nevada as the winner in a five-state bake-off, that pitted the Silver State against Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.The plant will be built with an estimated cost of $5 billion and creation of more than 6,500 job opportunities are expected through it. Announcement for the new factory in Navada was made by Elon Musk, Chairman and CEO, Tesla Motors, in the presence of Governor Brian Sandoval.
While talking about the Gigafactory, Elon Musk, Chairman and CEO of Tesla Motors, “I would like to recognize the leadership of Governor Sandoval and the Nevada Legislature for partnering with Tesla to bring the Gigafactory to the state. The Gigafactory is an important step in advancing the cause of sustainable transportation and will enable the mass production of compelling electric vehicles for decades to come. Together with Panasonic and other partners, we look forward to realizing the full potential of this project.”
Previously, the company had stated that it would break ground before the year-ending, and have the Gigafactory producing out battery pack in full capacity in 2020. That's shortly after when the Model 3 electric car is expected to hit showrooms. Laeding battery maker Panasonic is the major partner for the Gigafactory, which is expected to be the world’s largest and most advanced battery factory, when its comes actually comes alive in two years.

Tesla will build the world’s largest and most advanced battery factory in Nevada which means nearly one hundred billion dollars in economic impact to the Silver State over the next twenty years. Nevada is ready to lead,” stated Governor Brian Sandoval.
