AL-CPI and RL-CPI eases in September 2013 from August 2013

The All-India Consumer Price Index (CPI) numbers for Agricultural Labourers (AL) and Rural Labourers (RL) eased to 12.78% and 12.44%, respectively in September 2013 from 13.21% and 12.89%, respectively in August 2013.

Further, inflation based on food index of CPI-AL and CPI-RL are 13.27% and 13.08 % respectively during September 2013.

The All-India CPI numbers for AL and RL (Base: 1986-87=100) for September 2013 increased by 5 points and 6 points respectively to stand at 759 points each.

The rise/fall in index varied from State to State. In case of Agricultural Labourers, it recorded an increase which varied between 1 to 19 points in 19 States and a decrease of 6 points in 1 State. Haryana with 836 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 608 points stood at the bottom.

In case of Rural Labourers, it recorded an increase between 2 to 19 points in 18 states, a decrease of 7 points in 1 state and remained stationary in 1 state. Haryana with 830 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh state with the index level of 640 points stood at the bottom.

Haryana state registered the maximum increase of 19 points each for AL and RL mainly due to increase in the prices of wheat atta, bajara atta, vanaspati, meat goat, milk, ghee, onion, vegetables & fruits, firewood and shirting cloth cotton mill. On the other hand, Karnataka State registered a decline of 6 points for AL and 7 points for RL mainly due to decrease in the prices of rice, jowar, mustard oil, poultry, chillies green, vegetables & fruits and earthen ware.
