Ashok Leyland gains about 4% in two sessions

Ashok Leyland rose 1.12% to Rs 54.25 at 15:15 IST on BSE, extending Monday's 2.48% rise triggered by the company's strong sales performance in November 2014.

The company disclosed its sales figures during trading hours on Monday, 1 December 2014. Shares of Ashok Leyland rose 2.48% to Rs 53.65 on that day. The stock has risen 3.63% in two sessions from Rs 52.35 on 28 November 2014.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was down 67.30 points, or 0.24%, to 28,492.32.

On BSE, so far 15.36 lakh shares were traded in the counter, compared with an average volume of 20.05 lakh shares in the past one quarter.

The stock hit a high of Rs 54.45 and a low of Rs 52.65 so far during the day. The stock hit a 52-week high of Rs 56.15 on 13 November 2014. The stock hit a 52-week low of Rs 14.90 on 17 February 2014.

The stock had outperformed the market over the past one month till 1 December 2014, rising 15.75% compared with 2.49% rise in the Sensex. The scrip had also outperformed the market in past one quarter, rising 38.45% as against Sensex's 6.30% rise.

Ashok Leyland said its total sales rose 44% to 7,732 units in November 2014 over November 2013. Sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) surged 92% to 5,204 units in November 2014 over November 2013. Sales of light commerical vehicles (LCV) declined 5% to 2,528 units in November 2014 over November 2013.

Ashok Leyland reported a net profit of Rs 120.69 crore in Q2 September 2014, as compared to net loss of Rs 25.05 crore in Q2 September 2013. Net sales rose 26.1% to Rs 3150.37 crore in Q2 September 2014 over Q2 September 2013.

Ashok Leyland, the flagship of the Hinduja Group, is the second largest maker of commercial vehicles in India after Tata Motors.
