Australia S&P/ASX200 ends 0.7% up
Capital Market Australian equity market finished higher on first session of penultimate week of the year, Monday, 18 December 2017, boosted by banking and mining stocks after the Australian government trimmed its growth forecasts but said improved company profits and continued commodity demand from China would help keep the country on track to return to surplus inside three years. The S&P/ASX 200 index inclined 0.7% or 41.90 points to 6,038.90 at the close of trade. Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 695 to 548 and 357 ended unchanged. The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 0.52% to 11.073.
