Auto stocks mostly higher after NGT order

Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors edged higher at 11:10 IST on BSE after the National Green Tribunal directed that all the diesel vehicles which are more than ten years old will not be permitted to ply on the road in the major cities of Kerala.

Mahindra & Mahindra (up 0.23% at Rs 1,289.25) and Tata Motors (up 2.08% at Rs 390.70) edged higher. Maruti Suzuki India (down 0.09% at Rs 3,908) edged lower.

Meanwhile, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 5.05 points or 0.02% at 25,235.41.

The National Green Tribunal in its order dated yesterday, 23 May 2016, directed that all the diesel vehicles, whether light or heavy, which are more than ten years old, will not be permitted to ply on the road in the major cities of Kerala upon expiry of 30 days starting from 23 May 2016, to curb pollution.

The latest order from NGT banning more than 10 year old diesel vehicles in major cities of Kerala is expected to spur demand for new purchases.

The NGT also directed that Kerala will not register new diesel vehicles with the capacity of 2,000 CC and above, except public transport and local authority vehicles.
