Bharti Airtel rose 2.09% to Rs 344.40 at 9:30 IST on BSE after the Reserve Bank of India allowed foreign institutional investors to purchase up to 74% of the paid-up capital of the company.
Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was up 26.33 points, or 0.10%, to 25,850.08.
On BSE, so far 92,000 shares were traded in the counter, compared with an average volume of 3.03 lakh shares in the past one quarter.
The stock hit a high of Rs 345.20 and a low of Rs 340.65 so far during the day. The stock hit a 52-week high of Rs 373.50 on 1 November 2013. The stock hit a 52-week low of Rs 279.25 on 28 August 2013.
The stock had underperformed the market over the past one month till 3 July 2014, falling 6.07% compared with 3.88% rise in the Sensex. The scrip had also underperformed the market in past one quarter, rising 4.82% as against Sensex's 14.73% rise.
The large-cap company has an equity capital of Rs 1998.70 crore. Face value per share is Rs 5.

On Thursday, 3 July 2014, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) increased the limit of investments by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs)/Registered Foreign Portfolios Investors (RFPIs) in telecom operator Bharti Airtel to 74% of the company's paid-up capital. This is permitted under the portfolio investment scheme. Investors can make purchases through both the primary market and stock exchanges, RBI said.
Bharti Airtel's consolidated net profit jumped 89.1% to Rs 961.60 crore on 13.5% growth in net sales to Rs 22219.30 crore in Q4 March 2014 over Q4 March 2013.
