Bhel gains after commissioning 600 MW thermal unit in Telangana

Bharat Heavy Electricals rose 1.15% to Rs 167 at 13:22 IST on BSE after the company said it has successfully commissioned the first 600 megawatts coal-based thermal power plant in Telangana.

The announcement was made during trading hours today, 5 January 2016.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was up 22.12 points, or 0.09%, to 25,645.47.

On BSE, so far 2.06 lakh shares were traded in the counter, compared with an average volume of 4.39 lakh shares in the past one quarter. The stock hit a high of Rs 168.05 and a low of Rs 164.30 so far during the day. The stock hit a 52-week high of Rs 299.50 on 4 February 2015. The stock hit a 52-week low of Rs 164 on 4 January 2016. The stock had underperformed the market over the past one month till 4 January 2016, falling 2.10% compared with 0.06% decline in the Sensex. The scrip had also underperformed the market in past one quarter, falling 17.33% as against Sensex's 2.28% fall.

The large-cap company has an equity capital of Rs 489.52 crore. Face value per share is Rs 2.

Bharat Heavy Electricals (Bhel) said that the unit, commissioned at Kakatiya Thermal Power Project (TPP) at Chelpur in Warangal District of Telangana, is the highest rating unit in the state.

Bhel reported net loss of Rs 204.90 crore in Q2 September 2015 compared with net profit of Rs 124.84 crore in Q2 September 2014. Net sales declined 3.2% to Rs 5834.95 crore in Q2 September 2015 over Q2 September 2014.
