Bhel gains after commissioning thermal power plant in Bihar

Bharat Heavy Electricals rose 2.97% to Rs 114.40 at 14:21 IST on BSE after the company announced successful commissioning of a 250 megawatts coal-based thermal power plant in Bihar.

The 250 megawatts (MW) unit has been commissioned at the upcoming greenfield 1,000 MW Nabinagar Thermal Power Project which is being set up by Bhartiya Rail Bijlee Company (BRBCL), a joint venture of NTPC and the Indian Railways, Bhel said. The announcement was made during market hours today, 30 March 2016.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was up 360.87 points, or 1.45%, to 25,261.33

On BSE, so far 4.31 lakh shares were traded in the counter, compared with an average volume of 10.24 lakh shares in the past one quarter. The stock hit a high of Rs 114.55 and a low of Rs 111.40 so far during the day. The stock hit a 52-week high of Rs 289.85 on 21 July 2015. The stock hit a 52-week low of Rs 90.40 on 29 February 2016. The stock had outperformed the market over the past one month till 29 March 2016, rising 21.95% compared with 8.25% rise in the Sensex. The scrip had, however, underperformed the market in past one quarter, sliding 34.12% as against Sensex's 4.52% fall.

The large-cap company has an equity capital of Rs 489.52 crore. Face value per share is Rs 2.

Bhel reported net loss of Rs 1101.99 crore in Q3 December 2015 compared with net profit of Rs 212.60 crore in Q3 December 2014. Net sales declined 14% to Rs 5230.13 crore in Q3 December 2015 over Q3 December 2014.

Bhel is the largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in India in the energy related/infrastructure sector. The company caters to the core sectors including power, transmission, industry, transportation, renewable energy, oil & gas and defence.
