Core CPI inflation rises to 5.48% in July 2020
The all-India general CPI inflation rose to 6.93% in July 2020 (new base 2012=100), compared with 6.23% in June 2020. The corresponding provisional inflation rate for rural area was 7.04% and urban area 6.84% in July 2020 as against 6.34% and 6.12% in June 2020. The core CPI inflation rose to 5.48% in July 2020 compared with 4.97% in June 2020. The cumulative CPI inflation has moved up to 6.66% in July-June FY2020 compared with 3.09% in July-June FY2019.Among the CPI components, inflation of food and beverages jumped to 8.71% in July 2020 from 7.92% in February 2020. Within the food items, the inflation moved up for vegetables to 11.29%, oils and fats 12.41%, prepared meals, snacks, sweets etc 3.97% and sugar and confectionery 3.60%. The inflation also fell for non-alcoholic beverages to 4.38%, fruits 0.13%, egg 8.79% and spices 13.27%. However, the inflation declined for cereals and products to 6.96%, pulses and products 15.92%, milk and products 6.60% and meat and fish 18.81% in July 2020.
The inflation for housing eased to 3.25%, while that for miscellaneous items rose to 6.95% in July 2020. Within the miscellaneous items, the inflation for transport and communication increased to 9.95%, household goods and services 3.12%, education 3.25%, personal care and effects 13.63%, while it declined for health to 4.73% and recreation and amusement to 5.48% in July 2020.
The inflation for clothing and footwear increased to 2.91%, while the CPI inflation of fuel and light moved up to 2.8% in July 2020.
