Core CPI inflation rises marginally to 4.24% in July 2019
The all-India general CPI inflation was steady at 3.15% in July 2019 (new base 2012=100), compared with 3.18% in June 2019. The corresponding provisional inflation rate for rural area was 2.19% and urban area 4.22% in July 2019 as against 2.21% and 4.33% in June 2019.The core CPI inflation rose to 4.24% in July 2019 compared with 4.13% in June 2019.
The cumulative CPI inflation has declined to 3.09% in April-July FY2020 compared with 4.63% in April-July FY2019.
Among the CPI components, inflation of food and beverages eased to 2.33% in July 2019 from 2.37% in June 2019. Within the food items, the inflation declined for vegetables to 2.82%, sugar and confectionery (-) 2.11%, prepared meals, snacks, sweets etc. 2.56%, egg 0.57% and cereals and products 1.31%. However, the inflation rose for fruits (-) 0.86%, pulses and products 6.82%, milk and products 0.98%, spices 2.02%, oils and fats 0.91% and non-alcoholic beverages 3.38% in July 2019.
The inflation for housing rose marginally to 4.87%, while that for miscellaneous items moved up to 4.65% in July 2019. Within the miscellaneous items, the inflation for transport and communication increased to 1.62%, personal care and effects 4.30% and recreation and amusement 5.48%, while it eased for health to 7.88%, education 6.36% and household goods and services 4.04% in July 2019.
The inflation for clothing and footwear rose marginally to 1.65%, while the CPI inflation of fuel and light dipped to (-) 0.36% in July 2019.
