FPIs turn buyers

Net buying of Rs 943.40 crore on 21 April 2016

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought stocks worth a net Rs 943.40 crore on 21 April 2016 compared with net selling of Rs 11.19 crore on 20 April 2016. The net inflow of Rs 943.40 crore into the secondary equity markets on 21 April 2016 was a result of gross purchases of Rs 5738.56 crore and gross sales of Rs 4795.16 crore. On 21 April 2016, the Sensex rose 36.20 points or 0.14% to settle at 25,880.38, its highest closing level since 1 January 2016.

There were no trades by FPIs in the 'primary markets & others' category on 21 April 2016.

FPIs have mopped up stocks worth a net Rs 6638.49 crore from the secondary equity markets in this month so far (till 21 April 2016). FPIs bought stocks worth a net Rs 20720.56 crore from the secondary equity markets last month. FPIs have purchased shares worth a net Rs 11107.81 crore from the secondary equity markets in calendar year 2016 so far (till 21 April 2016). FPIs sold shares worth a net Rs 4362.50 crore into the secondary equity markets in calendar year 2015.

There has been a net inflow of Rs 95.56 crore from FPIs into the 'primary markets & others' category in this month so far (till 21 April 2016). There was an inflow of Rs 422.36 crore from FPIs into the 'primary markets & others' category last month. The net inflow from FPIs into the 'primary markets & others' category has totaled Rs 121.33 crore in calendar year 2016 so far (till 21 April 2016). There was net inflow of Rs 22168.40 crore from FPIs into the 'primary markets & others' category in calendar year 2015.
