GMR Infrastructure leads gainers in 'A' group

GMR Infrastructure jumped 5.26% to Rs 19 after the company said after market hours on Monday, 12 December 2011, that GMR Rajahmundry Energy has commissioned the first unit of a power plant at Vemagiri in Andhra Pradesh. The stock topped the gainers in the BSE's 'A' group.

The first unit of GMR Rajahmundry Energy's combined cycle power plant at Vemagiri in Andhra Pradesh was synchronized on Sunday (11 December 2011) night, adding 384 megawatts (MW) capacity to the Andhra Pradesh grid. GMR Infrastructure said that the GMR Group is setting up the 2x384 (MW) combined cycle power plant adjacent to its existing plant located at Vemagiri. The first unit has been commissioned on Sunday, 11 December 2011, in a record time of 24 months. The second unit is expected to be commissioned by February 2012, GMR said in a statement. This GMR project was identified as a XI plan project and accordingly was shortlisted for gas allocation by the Government of India. It is expected that gas will be made available to this project shortly, GMR further added.

India's largest aluminium maker by sales Hindalco Industries jumped 4.78% to Rs 129.45 on bargain hunting after the stock slipped 10.18% in the preceding three sessions to Rs 123.55 on 12 December 2011 from a recent high of Rs 137.55 on 7 December 2011. The stock was second biggest gainer in 'A' group.

Diversified company Grasim Industries rose 4.16% to Rs 2412.45 on bargain hunting after the stock slipped 5.83% in the preceding five sessions to Rs 2316.10 on 12 December 2011 from a recent high of Rs 2459.60 on 2 December 2011. The stock was fourth biggest gainer in 'A' group.

Specialty chemicals maker Godrej Industries rose 3.94% to Rs 204.25. The stock was fifth biggest gainer in 'A' group.
