UPA's nominee bet NDA's nominee Jaswant Singh by garnering a majority of 490 votes out of 728 votes cast in the election

Ruling Congress led United Progressive Alliance nominee-Hamid Ansari has been re-elected as the Vice President of India for the consecutive second time.

Hamid Ansari bet his rival and Bhartiya Janata Party led National Democratic Alliance's nominee Jaswant Singh by garnering a majority of 490 votes out of 728 votes cast in the election.

The Vice-Presidential polls took place yesterday, 7 August 2012 where nearly 800 MPs were eligible to vote. The vice president is elected by members of an electoral college consisting of members of both houses of parliament.
