Overall capacity utilization stood lower at 101.6% in August 2014 and 100.6% in April-August FY2015
India's crude oil refinery output declined 4.3% to 18.55 million tonnes (mt) in August 2014, continuing downfall for fifth straight month. Public sector refineries recorded 0.2% fall in the output to 10.456 mt in August 2014. Meanwhile, the output of private refineries declined 1.8% to 7.582 mt. Further, the output of Public-private joint venture refiner's plunged 56.6% to 0.523 mt in August 2014 over August 2013.Among the public refineries, the output of Indian Oil fell 1% to 4.572 mt, while the output of Chennai Petroleum plunged 10.2% to 0.873 mt in August 2014. The output of Numaligarh Refineries also declined 4.3% to 0.251 mt. On the other hand, the output of Hindustan Petroleum moved up 3.9% to 1.48 mt. The output of Bharat Petroleum increased 2.8% to 2.085 mt, while that of Mangalore Refineries galloped 2.2% to 1.191 mt in August 2014 against August 2013.
Among the JV refineries, Bharat Oman recorded 3.2% dip in output to 0.523 mt, while the output of HPCL Mittal was nil in August 2014 due to fire incident leading to unplanned shutdown. Among private refiners, the output of Essar Oil declined 2.4% to 1.401 mt, while that of Reliance Petroleum also fell 1.6% to 5.871 mt in August 2014.
The cumulative refinery output rose declined 2.7% to 90.709 mt during April-August FY2015. The output of public refineries declined 0.4%. Among the public refineries, Bharat Petroleum, Chennai Petroleum and Mangalore Refineries recorded decline in refinery output, while the output of Numaligarh Refineries, Hindustan Petroleum and Indian Oil increased in April-August FY2015.
The overall capacity utilization was lower at 101.6% during August 2014, while it was also lower at 100.6% in April-August FY2015, compared to 106.1% in August 2013 and 103.4% in April-August FY2014.
