India's crude oil refinery output jumps 5.9% in May 2015

Crude oil refinery output rises 0.7% in April-May 2015

India's crude oil refinery output jumped 5.9% to 19.198 million tonnes (mt) in May 2015 over May 2014, snapping fall for last three sequential months. Output of public sector refineries zoomed 14.9% to 10.028 mt. Output of private refineries dipped 4% to 7.864 mt, while that of public-private JV refiners improved 8.4% to 1.306 mt in May 2015.

Among public refineries, output of Indian Oil jumped 15.2% to 4.699 mt, while output of Bharat Petroleum moved up 22.1% to 1.998 mt in May 2015 over May 2014. The output of Hindustan Petroleum and Mangalore Refineries surged 27.8% each to 1.119 mt and 1.209 mt in May 2015. However, the output of Mangalore Refineries dipped 53.8% to 0.123 mt and that of Chennai Petroleum also declined 4.5% to 0.877 mt in May 2015.

Among private refiners, output of Essar Oil declined 8% to 1.672 mt, while that of Reliance Petroleum also slipped 2.8% to 6.192 mt.

Among JV refineries, Bharat Oman recorded 7.1% growth in output to 0.436 mt in May 2015, while the output of HPCL Mittal moved up 9.1% to 0.87 mt in May 2015 over a year ago.

The cumulative refinery output rose 0.7% to 35.348 mt in April-May 2015. Output of public refineries increased 6.1% to 18.75 mt, but that of JV refineries dipped 11.9% to 2.145 mt and private refineries 3.5% to 14.45 mt in May 2015. Among public refineries, output of Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum, Mangalore Refineries and Bharat Petroleum rose, while that of Chennai Petroleum, and Numaligarh Refineries declined.

The overall capacity utilization was higher at 108.18% in May 2015 and 102.65% in April-May 2015 compared with 100.03% in May 2014 and 100.08% in April-May 2014.
