Turnover spurts in F&O segment on account of weekly options expiry.
The Nifty May 2020 futures were at 9,210.40, a premium of 11.35 points compared with the spot closing at 9,199.05.Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's futures & options (F&O) segment was Rs 22.79 lakh crore compared with Rs 14.76 lakh crore reported in the previous session.
In the cash market, the Nifty 50 index fell 71.85 points or 0.79% and closed at 9,199.05.
The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of market's expectation of volatility over the near term, declined 3.68% to 39.7275.
On the options front, the Nifty option chain for 28 May 2020 expiry showed maximum call open interest (OI) of 18.72 lakh at the 10,000 strike price. Maximum put OI of 25.05 lakh contracts was seen at 9,000 strike price.
Hindustan Unilever, Reliance Industries (RIL) and Bajaj Finance were the top traded individual stock futures contracts in F&O segment of NSE. HUL May 2020 futures were at 1,988, compared with spot closing price of 1998. RIL May 2020 futures were at 1,513.85 compared with spot closing price of 1512. Bajaj Finance May 2020 futures were at 2,070.20, compared with spot closing price of 2071.
