Passengers traffic declines 6.3% to 677.7 million in August 2014
The revenue of Indian Railway (IR) jumped at eighteen-month high pace of 19% to Rs 12425.07 crore in August 2014 over August 2013. The passenger revenue shot up 26.4% to Rs 3948.03 crore in August 2014 mainly driving the overall revenue growth of Indian Railways for August 2014.The goods revenue, accounting for 64% of the total revenue, also jumped 17.2% to Rs 7998.23 crore in August 2014.
However, the revenue from other sources declined 2.4% to Rs 478.81 crore. Among the other sources of revenue, the revenue from other coaching increased 9.9% to Rs 320.17 crore, but the sundry revenue plunged 20.3% to Rs 158.64 crore in August 2014.
The revenues of Indian Railways have increased 12.5% to Rs 61324.64 crore in April-August 2014, showing accelerated pace of growth compared to 10.4% increase recorded in April-August 2013.
Passenger Traffic
The total approximate number of passengers booked showed a decline of 6.3% to 677.7 million in August 2014. The passenger traffic has moved up 1.2% to 3576.87 million in April-August 2014, against 0.9% decline recorded in April-August 2013.
