ITC slips after block deal

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was down 37.51 points or 0.19% at 19,279.74.

On BSE, 10.04 lakh shares were traded in the counter as against average daily volume of 3.55 lakh shares in the past one quarter.

The stock hit a high of Rs 295 and a low of Rs 292.05 so far during the day. The stock had hit record high of Rs 306.50 on 12 December 2012. The stock had hit a 52-week low of Rs 192.25 on 19 December 2011.

The stock had outperformed the market over the past one month till 14 December 2012, gaining 4.19% compared with the Sensex's 3.75% rise. The scrip had also outperformed the market in past one quarter, surging 10.31% as against Sensex's 4.62% gain.

The large-cap company has equity capital of Rs 787.11 crore. Face value per share is Re 1.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in October 2012 notified new pictorial health warnings to be depicted on tobacco product packs which will come into effect from 1 April 2013. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in a statement on 22 October 2012 that three sets of warnings each have been notified for smoking as well as smokeless forms of tobacco product packages. The well-designed health warnings and messages are part of a range of measures to communicate health risks due to tobacco use. Pictorial health warnings communicate health risks in a visible way, provoke a greater emotional response and increase the motivation of tobacco users to quit and to decrease their tobacco consumption, the ministry's statement said. Graphic warning labels have a greater impact than text-only labels and can be recognized by low-literacy audiences and children, the statement added.

ITC's net profit jumped 21.3% to Rs 1836.42 crore on 19.6% growth in net sales to Rs 7146 crore in Q2 September 2012 over Q2 September 2011.
