Jaiprakash Power Ventures leads gainers in 'A' group

NHPC, Oriental Bank of Commerce, United Breweries and GMR Infrastructure are among the other gainers.

Power generation firm Jaiprakash Power Ventures spurted 8.03% to Rs 16.81. The stock topped the gainers in the BSE's 'A' group.

State-run hydro-power utility NHPC galloped 6.50% to Rs 18.85 after a media report suggested that the company will buyback its shares worth Rs 1600 crore from the open market. The stock was second biggest gainer in 'A' group.

According to the report, NHPC will buyback its shares worth Rs 1600 crore from the market and the Power Ministry will soon float a Cabinet note for the same. Report suggested that the Government had earlier planned to disinvest 11.36% stake in NHPC through offer for sale (OFS) route in the domestic market. But due to choppy market conditions, the Government changed the plan to buyback of shares.

State-run Oriental Bank of Commerce galloped 6.13% to Rs 172.20. The stock was third biggest gainer in 'A' group.

Beer maker United Breweries jumped 5.90% to Rs 863.90. The stock was fourth biggest gainer in 'A' group.
