Japan Nikkei falls on uncertainty in Italy, Wall Street's retreat
Capital MarketJapan share market finished session down on Wednesday, 30 May 2018, as investor sentiment was sapped by the political crisis in Italy and a consequent rally in safe-haven US Treasury bonds. The market was also affected by the White House's statement Tuesday that a final list of Chinese imports valued at $50 billion to be hit with a 25% tariff will be announced by June 15. Among TSE33 issues, nonferrous metal, insurance, and glass and ceramic product-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index lost 1.52%, or 339.91 points, to end at 22,018.52 while the broader Topix index was down 1.46%, or 25.72 points, at 1,736.13.
