Japan Stocks mixed on geopolitical concerns

The Japan share market finished mixed on Tuesday, 22 August 2017, as investors cast a wary eye amid the yen appreciation against the U.S. dollar, lingering geopolitical concerns over North Korea, and on caution ahead of a key central banker meeting later in the week. Among TSE sectors, land transportation, food, and construction-linked issues comprised the day's notable decliners. Tokyo's benchmark Nikkei 225 index edged down 0.05%, or 9.29 points, to close at 19,383.84, while the broader Topix index of all first-section issues ticked up 0.06%, or 0.93 points, to 1,596.12. rising issues outpaced falling ones by 966 to 919 on the First Section. On the main section on Tuesday, 1,314.91 million shares changed hands, dropping from Monday's volume of 1,406.90 million shares. The turnover on the second trading day of the week came to 1,714.2 billion yen.
