Hindustan Construction Company surged 5.11% to Rs 14.18 at 11:56 IST on BSE after the firm said it has won a contract worth Rs 1597 crore from THDC India to construct Vishnugad Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Power project in Chamoli district of Uttrakhand.
The new order was announced during trading hours today, 23 December 2013.
Meanwhile, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 73.28 points or 0.35% at 21,153.
On BSE, so far 10.83 lakh shares were traded in the counter as against average daily volume of 6.97 lakh shares in the past one quarter.
The stock hit a high of Rs 14.50 and a low of Rs 13.78 so far during the day. The stock had hit a 52-week high of Rs 20.85 on 9 January 2013. The stock had hit a 52-week low of Rs 7.75 on 2 August 2013.
The stock had underperformed the market over the past one month till 20 December 2013, declining 1.17% compared with the Sensex's 2.15% rise. The scrip had, however, outperformed the market in past one quarter, jumping 30.09% as against Sensex's 4.03% rise.

Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) said it was awarded a prestigious contract worth Rs 1597 crore from THDC India to construct Vishnugad Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Power project in Chamoli district of Uftrakhand. This is an EPC contract (engineering, procurement and construction) for civil works, hydro-mechanical works including penstock steel liner of the hydro electric power project. The project will be completed in 54 months, the company said in a statement.
HCC reported a net profit of Rs 31.60 crore in Q2 September 2013 as against net loss of Rs 17.87 crore in Q2 September 2012. Net sales rose 2.8% to Rs 889.65 crore in Q2 September 2013 over Q2 September 2012.
