Nifty March futures trade at premium to spot price

Turnover on NSE's F&O segment rises

The March 2016 futures on the 50-unit Nifty 50 index traded at 7534.85, a premium of 36.10 points over Nifty's closing of 7498.75 in the cash market. The Nifty April 2016 futures traded at 7575.50, a premium of 76.75 points compared with the spot closing for the index. Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's (NSE) futures and options (F&O) totaled Rs 2.46 lakh crore, higher than turnover of Rs 1.89 lakh crore registered during the previous trading session.

In the cash market, the Nifty rose 38.15 points or 0.51% to settle at 7,498.75, its highest closing level since 14 March 2016.

Reliance Infrastructure, State Bank of India (SBI), Tata Steel, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank were the top traded individual stock futures contracts on the futures & options (F&O) segment of NSE. Reliance Infrastructure March 2016 futures traded at 500.80, near spot closing of 500.10. SBI March 2016 futures traded at 186.25, at a premium over spot closing of 185.60. Tata Steel March 2016 futures traded at 300, near spot closing of 299.95.

Axis Bank March 2016 futures traded at 427.20, at a pemium over spot closing of 425.90. ICICI Bank March 2016 futures traded at 227.50, near spot closing of 227.05.

The March 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 31 March 2016. The April 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 28 April 2016.
