Nifty May futures trade at premium to spot price

Turnover on NSE's F&O segment increases

The May 2016 futures on the Nifty 50 index traded at 7915, a premium of 59.95 points compared with Nifty's closing of 7855.05 in the cash market. The Nifty April 2016 futures traded at 7877, a premium of 21.95 points compared with the spot closing for the index. Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's (NSE) futures and options (F&O) totaled Rs 3.59 lakh crore, higher than turnover of Rs 2.96 lakh crore registered during the previous trading session.

In the cash market, the Nifty fell 44.25 points or 0.56% to settle at 7,855.05, its lowest closing level since 13 April 2016.

Reliance Industries (RIL), State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, Tata Steel and Maruti Suzuki India (Maruti) were the top traded individual stock futures contracts on the futures & options (F&O) segment of NSE. RIL April 2016 futures traded at 1015.10, at a premium compared with spot closing of 1014.55. SBI April 2016 futures traded at 197.75, near spot closing of 197.35. HDFC Bank April 2016 futures traded at 1094.90, near spot closing of 1094.15.

Tata Steel April 2016 futures traded at 349.70, near spot closing of 349.05. Maruti April 2016 futures traded at 3740.95, at a premium compared with spot closing of 3730.

The April 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on Thursday, 28 April 2016. The May 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 26 May 2016.
