Shares of four oil exploration and production firms rose 0.15% to 4.36% at 11:28 IST on BSE on gain in global crude oil prices.
ONGC (up 0.15% at Rs 230.25), Cairn India (up 4.36% at Rs 150.80), Oil India (up 0.08% at Rs 435.50) and Reliance Industries (up 0.92% at Rs 856.75) edged higher.
Meanwhile, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 349.09 points or 1.38% at 25,666.96.
In the global commodities market, Brent crude oil prices edged higher extending yesterday's sharp rally. Brent for October settlement was up 40 cents at $49.92 a barrel. The contract had risen $1.89 a barrel or 3.96% to settle at $49.52 a barrel during the previous trading session. Higher crude prices will result in increase in realization from crude sales for oil exploration firms.
