The stock market traded with small gains in mid-morning trade. At 11:16 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, rose 80.16 points or 0.23% at 34,432.95. The Nifty 50 index advanced 9.15 points or 0.09% at 10,632.75. The Sensex, and the Nifty, had hit record highs in early trade. Key indices traded higher amid mixed trend in Asian stocks and broadly positive finish on Wall Street overnight.
Among secondary indices, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.05%, underperforming the Sensex. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index advanced 0.37%, outperforming the Sensex.
The breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was positive. On the BSE, 1,421 shares rose and 1,211 shares declined. A total of 106 shares were unchanged.
Realty stocks advanced. D B Realty (up 4.98%), Indiabulls Real Estate (up 3.53%), Oberoi Realty (up 3.14%), Godrej Properties (up 2.9%), Unitech (up 2.9%), Sobha (up 1.49%), Prestige Estates Projects (up 0.58%), DLF (up 0.44%) and HDIL (up 0.31%) gained.
Cement stocks were mixed. Grasim Industries (up 1.3%), Shree Cement (up 0.41%) and Ambuja Cements (up 0.11%) edged higher. ACC (down 0.22%) and UltraTech Cement (down 0.16%) edged lower.
Overseas, Asian stocks were mixed as investors in the region digested earnings guidance from tech heavyweight Samsung Electronics and kept an eye on ongoing inter-Korea talks.

North and South Korea have begun high-level talks, the first between the countries in two years. North Korea will reportedly send athletes and cheerleaders to next month's Winter Olympics in South Korea, after the two countries held their first official talks for more than two years. The talks represent a cautious diplomatic breakthrough after months of rising tensions over Pyongyang's nuclear weapons programme. US President Donald Trump called the talks a "big start", adding that it would be a "great thing for all of humanity" if they resulted in a positive outcome.
In the US, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq composite finished Monday's session at all-time highs as investors remained optimistic on the US economy.
