Muslims will get alternative land
The Supreme Court (SC) in its historic verdict in the Ayodhya Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid land title dispute case on Saturday has ruled in favour of the Hindu parties.
The disputed land will be handed over to a trust, which will also have representation from the Nirmohi Akhara. The apex court has also directed allotment of alternate land to the muslims for construction of a mosque "at a suitable place" in Ayodhya.
The evidence of Hindus stands on a better footing than Muslims, it said. On the balance of probabilities, there is evidence that worship by Hindus in the outer courtyard had continued, it added.
SC said archaeological excavations suggest that there was an underlying structure under the Babri Masjid which was "not of Islamic origin".
SC dismissed the Single Leave Petition (SLP) filed by Shia Waqf Board challenging the order of 1946 Faizabad Court. SC said the disputed land was government land in the revenue records.

The landmark verdict was delivered by a five-member Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi. The bench also comprised Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer. To avoid any chaos, SC restricted entry of persons today in the court.
Ahead of SC's keenly-awaited verdict in the case, security was tightened across India. While forces are on alert across the country, elaborate security arrangements have been put in place in Uttar Pradesh and especially Ayodhya in wake of the verdict.
