Select stocks gain on inclusion in MSCI index

Britannia Industries and Vakrangee advanced 0.78% and 1.39% at 9:47 IST on BSE, after these two stocks along with Petronet LNG were included in the MSCI India index with effect from today, 1 December 2017.

Britannia Industries (up 0.78% at Rs 4,820) and Vakrangee (up 1.39% at Rs 726.85) gained. Petronet LNG was down 0.02% at Rs 250.95. The stock had hit a high of Rs 252.50 and a low of Rs 249.60 so far during the day.

Meanwhile, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 71.57 points or 0.22% at 33,220.92.

Shares of Britannia Industries, Petronet LNG and Vakrangee were included in the MSCI India index with effect from today, 1 December 2017. Apollo Hospitals Enterprises was removed from the index. Shares of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise were up 1.37% at Rs 1,123.15.

In the MSCI India Domestic index, shares of L&T Finance Holdings (up 0.35% at Rs 173.25), TVS Motor Company (up 1.38% at Rs 728.70) and Vakrangee were included, while no deletions were made.

Inclusion in the MSCI indices is usually an indication that the stocks will catch foreign fund managers' attention. Foreign active funds and exchange-traded funds, which track the MSCI indices, are likely to buy or sell shares of the companies included or excluded from these indices.
