Siemens drops amid volatility

Siemens lost 1.48% to Rs 969.25 at 13:17 IST on BSE, with the stock sliding amid volatility after the company said it has won a prestigious order from NTPC for approximately Rs 52 crore.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was down 75.76 points or 0.29% at 26,024.32.

On BSE, so far 33,000 shares were traded in the counter as against average daily volume of 53,531 shares in the past one quarter.

The stock was volatile. The stock lost as much as 2.31% at the day's low of Rs 961.05 so far during the day. The stock rose as much as 1.42% at the day's high of Rs 997.80 so far during the day. The stock had hit a 52-week low of Rs 414.05 on 3 September 2013. The stock had hit a 52-week high of Rs 1010 on 4 July 2014.

The stock had underperformed the market over the past one month till 7 July 2014, gaining 1.44% compared with Sensex's 2.77% rise. The scrip had, however, outperformed the market in past one quarter, jumping 31.68% as against Sensex's 16.81% rise.

The large-cap company has equity capital of Rs 71.22 crore. Face value per share is Rs 2.

Siemens said that it has won an order worth of approximately Rs 52 crore from NTPC. The order is for supply of state of the art distributed control system (DCS) for its 4X210 megawatts (MW) power plant located in Bhagalpur, Bihar. The scope of the project includes the supply, erection and commissioning of control and instrumentation for the complete power plant, Siemens said in a statement.

Siemens' net profit rose 194.7% to Rs 88.27 crore on 8.6% decline in net sales to Rs 2657.74 crore in Q2 March 2014 over Q2 March 2013.
