Trading of Nifty 50 index futures on the Singapore stock exchange indicates that the Nifty could fall 105 points at the opening bell.
Overseas, Asian stocks were trading lower on Wednesday as a US warning to Americans to prepare for the possibility of a coronavirus pandemic drove another Wall Street tumble and pushed yields on safe-haven Treasuries to record lows.
In US, stocks closed with the Dow Jones Industrial Average registering its worst two day loss on record on Tuesday, after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned Americans to prepare for a coronavirus outbreak and investors attempted to assess the impact of the epidemic in China on global trade and travel.
Back home, domestic shares ended with small losses on Tuesday, extending a steep sell-off a day earlier. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, slipped 82.03 points or 0.20% at 40,281.20. The Nifty 50 index fell 16.20 points or 0.14% at 11,813.20.
The trading activity on that day showed that the foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 2315.07 crore yesterday, 25 February 2020, as per provisional data released by the stock exchanges. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 1565.28 crore, yesterday, 25 February 2020, as per provisional data.
