While making a concluding remark at a Conference on City Gas Distribution in India-Issues, Challenges & Opportunities under aegis of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas Mr. Ashutosh Jindal said, the IGL is likely to move this proposal to the Ministry which is inclined to endorse it for the benefit and convenience of PNG consumers in the region.
Mr. Jindal said that the consumers satisfaction was the priority of the government of the day and it is in this background that the IGL has begun to workout details for a yearly bills for PNG users in consultation with its mother ministry that is the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, adding that the target to provide 10 million PNG connection by 2019 to the masses is achievable.
The company will initially trust on the feedback of the consumers of the PNG which will record their consumptions through e-commerce mode to the IGL and accordingly, the company will bill it though it will have an effective monitoring system in place, indicated Mr. Jindal without prescribing any particular timeframe for the execution of the new practice. However, Mr. Jindal said that it would come sooner or later as the proposal is sound and logical.
According to him, the PNG metering system would also be declared as one of the public utilities on lines of electric and water meters as the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has written to its counterparts in the Urban Development Ministry to facilitate the move as it would lead to acquisition of public places for installment of public services.
Earlier, inaugurating the PHD Chamber Conference, Chairperson, Petroleum & Natural Gas Regulatory Board Mr. S Krishnan ruled out extension and expansion in the current bidding process of two months for laying pipeline gas infrastructure for both domestic and industrial purposes, arguing that status quo on it would be maintained as the time limit is more than sufficient.
