Nifty June 2016 futures trade at slight premium to spot price

The June 2016 futures on the Nifty 50 index traded at 8,239, a slight premium of 20.05 points compared with the Nifty's closing of 8,218.95 in the cash market. The Nifty July 2016 futures traded at 8,261.15, a premium of 42.20 points compared with the spot closing for the index. Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's futures & options (F&O) segment totaled Rs 2.3 lakh crore, which was higher than turnover of Rs 1.81 lakh crore registered during the previous trading session.

In the cash market, the Nifty 50 index rose 39 points or 0.48% to settle at 8,218.95, its highest closing level since 27 October 2015.

Tata Motors, State Bank of India (SBI), Yes Bank, Axis Bank and Tata Steel were the top traded individual stock futures contracts in the June 2016 series. Tata Motors June 2016 futures traded at 454.65, at a premium compared with spot closing of 453. SBI June 2016 futures traded at 199.20, at a discount compared with spot closing of 200.60. Yes Bank June 2016 futures traded at 1,055.40, at a premium compared with the stock's spot closing of 1,052.50.

Axis Bank June 2016 futures traded at 528.90, at a premium compared with spot closing of 524.70. Tata Steel June 2016 futures traded at 342.95, at a premium compared with spot closing of 341.90.

The June 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 30 June 2016. The July 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 28 July 2016.
