A bookie, who had produced a Bengali film, and nine of his associates were arrested in Kolkata, police said Thursday, adding that they were investigating if the culprits had links with the ongoing IPL spot fixing controversy.
Bookie Ajit Surekha and others were nabbed Wednesday night from their hideout in the Ultadanga area of north Kolkata during a joint operation by police's special task force and detective department, an official said.
While probe was on regarding their involvement in the ongoing IPL spot fixing controversy, initial investigation has revealed they bet on a match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
About Rs.3 lakh in cash, several mobile phones and a laptop were seized, police said.
All the 10 accused were presented in a city court.
"They have been sent to police custody till May 27," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh.
Surekha had produced a movie in 2012.
