102 bills pending in parliament (With: 44 bills listed for parliament's 16-day monsoon session)

A staggering 102 bills are pending before parliament, with successive sessions failing to transact much business. However, only 44 bills have been listed for the 16 working days of the Aug 6-30 monsoon session.

Some important pending bills:

* The food security bill, an ordinance on which was passed in July and has to be ratified in six months.

* The land acquisition bill.

* The insurance law amendment bill raising the foreign equity cap to 49 percent from 26 percent.

* The pension bill giving statutory powers to the interim authority set up in 2003.

* The Lokpal and Lokayukta bill, which has been sent to a select committee, whose report is expected by the first week of the Nov-Dec winter session.

* The whistleblowers protection bill which the Lok Sabha has passed and is before the Rajya Sabha.

* The grievance redressal bill that makes it mandatory for every public authority to publish a citizens charter within six months of the commencement of the act.

* The judicial accountability bill, passed by the Lok Sabha and now before the Rajya Sabha.

* The Foreign Educational Institutions (Regulation of Entry and Operations) Bill.

* The Education Tribunal Bill, passed by the Lok Sabha in August 2010 and now before the Rajya Sabha.

* The Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Bill.

* The Constitution (117th) Amendment Bill that seeks to make reservations in promotions.

* The mines bill that seeks to consolidate and amend the law relating to the scientific development and regulation of mines and minerals under the control of the central government.

* Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University Bill and Indira Gandhi National University for Women Bill.
