13 killed in Iraq attacks

A total of 13 people were killed and 17 wounded in separate bombings and shootings in different parts of Iraq Friday, police sources said.

An employee of the Iraqi oil ministry was killed when a sticky bomb exploded in his car in Baghdad' s Ghazaliya district, Xinhua quoted a police source as saying.

A civilian was killed and six wounded when a roadside bomb exploded near a popular fruit market in the Tarmiyah area, 30 km from Baghdad, the source added.

In a separate incident, a roadside bomb was detonated near an army patrol, leaving an Iraqi soldier killed and four wounded in the Abu Ghraib area, 25 km from Baghdad.

In addition, a policeman was killed and another wounded when a roadside bomb targeted their patrol near the town of Dujail, 60 km from Baghdad.

Four militants of the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant were killed in a clash with Iraqi army near Fallujah city.

In a raid by unidentified gunmen against a civilian vehicle, two soldiers and a civilian were killed and another soldier wounded while travelling west of the city of Tikrit, 170 km from Baghdad.

In Diyala province, a civilian was shot dead and four wounded by unidentified gunmen in Muqdadiyah, some 40 km from Baquba city.

Meanwhile, a soldier was killed and another wounded when unidentified gunmen attacked an army checkpoint in Qaratapa area, 112 km from Baquba.

According to the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, a total of 8,868 Iraqis, including 7,818 civilians and civilian police personnel, were killed in 2013, the highest annual death toll in years.
