14 killed in Iraq attacks

A total of 14 people were killed and 15 wounded in separate bombings and shootings across Iraq Sunday, police and medical sources said.

In Anbar province, two soldiers were killed and as many injured as clashes erupted in southeastern the provincial capital city of Ramadi, some 110 km from Baghdad, Xinhua quoted a provincial police source as saying while requesting anonymity.

In another incident, unidentified gunman opened fire on college students in Ramadi, killing a girl and injuring five students while heading to their college, the source said.

In Fallujah city's Saqlawiyah town, two policemen, including an officer, were killed and as many injured in a clash between Iraqi police and gunmen, the source added.

Six people, including two children and three women, were killed, while three children and as many women of a family were left injured by artillery and mortar shelling on several neighbourhoods in the besieged city of Fallujah, a medical source at the hospital said.

In Salahudin province, a policeman shot dead two gunmen in an area in Tikrit, 170 km from Baghdad, a provincial police source said. The gunmen first tried to abduct the policeman, but he managed to seize their weapon and opened fire on them, the source added.

Also in the province, Iraqi security forces shot dead a suspected leader of the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL), an Al Qaeda breakaway group in Iraq, near Samarra city, during a raid at his house, the source said.
